Announcements for the week of October 5, 2008
Loaves and Fishes
As Loaves and Fishes approaches the fall when some of its volunteers move to warmer weather, we seek new volunteers in order to keep our pantry open every day of the week. The policy and practice is to close the pantry on any day we are unable to schedule two volunteers. We are making a special plea at this time for anyone willing to CONSIDER becoming a volunteer. Please contact Du Wayne Furman at 837-9387, Dana Walker at 833-3268, or either of our pastors, with the names of “suspects” and/or “prospects”.
New Study – Sundays @ 6:30 p.m. at The Wesley Foundation –
Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Dave Lafary would like to invite you to the third flight of an Sunday evening faith-study entitled, “Living the Questions 2.0.” This study is an open-minded alternative to studies that attempt to give participants all of the rightanswers, and instead strives to create an environment where participants can interact with one another in exploring what’s true and real and compelling in our faith. This exploration is 7–week DVD-based small group study entitled, “Call to Covenant”, and will take place on Sundays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning tonight– at the Wesley Foundation ( 1325 University Drive – across from Higgins Hall).
New Study – Thursdays @ 7:00 p.m.
Rev. Dave Lafary and Rev. Steve Smith will be offering a new kind of ecumenical faith study entitled, “Reel Spirituality.” We will explore the contours of our faith and spirituality through the lens of a different motion picture each week for six weeks on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Each film will enable us to examine and discuss our different spiritual/faith disciplines such as compassion, hospitality, inclusion, connectedness, faith, courage, and more! Please plan to join us!

Christian Education News
We are here to assist you every Sunday in making your worship experience great for all family members. The Nursery is available from 8:30am to 12:30pm for children newborn to 4 years old. Every Sunday there are worship packets for children in grades 1- 4. The worship packet has activities that correspond with the sermon of the day.
From October 5 to November 16, the 5 th & 6 th Grade Sunday School Class will be accepting donations for our 2008 Shoebox Ministry. Our Shoebox Ministry is a part of the Samaritan Purse’s Operation Christmas Child. Last year, the program provided a Christmas present to children in poverty in 150 countries around the world. These children would otherwise not be receiving any gifts. The gifts are placed in the shoeboxes with the following ages and genders in minds: boys and girls ages 2 to 4 years old or ages 5 to 9 years old, or ages 10 to 14 years old. In order to provide gifts for needy children, we could use items from the list below to fill our boxes. Contributions for our mission may be left on our display table in the Atrium.
