Service Opportunities with Local Agencies (2)archive 2-2016

As part of our Learn-Grow-Serve efforts, here at Wesley, we have created the following list of existing agencies in our area who are looking for volunteers and/or assistance.  Individuals and groups interested in working with, or contributing to, the agencies listed below should contact the agency directly.

List of Local Agencies in Western Illinois who are Seeking Volunteers

  • American Red Cross - McDonough County Chapter, 1224 Maple Avenue, Macomb: (309)837-1594
  • Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley - Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs children with role models (mentors). They strive to help children realize their potential and build their futures.  They have a variety of volunteer and donation opportunities.  Contact info.  Macomb Office: (309)837-5437
  • CASA of McDonough County - Court Appointed Special Advocate. CASA Volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children who find themselves in the court system through no fault of their own. (309)544-0003
  • Loaves and Fishes Etc. - Assistance to people in need. Food pantry (and other services provided, depending on funding). (309)836-3663
  • H.O.P.E. Community Thrift Store - Clothing center. 122 N. Side Square, Macomb: (309)255-5920
  • Soup N' More - Provide a monthly meal, Pack-A-Sack free pantry service; and Emergency food boxes. More info. (309)833-2949
  • Genesis Garden - dedicated to eliminating poverty through a proactive, preventive, and compassionate approach.  (309)326.3075
  • Habitat for Humanity of McDonough County - Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Office is at our church (1212 West Calhoun Street). Contact. (309) 837-1716
  • Midwest Mission Distribution Center of the UMC (in Chatham, IL, south of Springfield) - To compassionately help God’s people in need locally, nationally, and around the world, and to offer a center to fulfill the call for service to our neighbors in Christ’s name. Contact.  (217)483-7911
  • Harbor Light Hospice - Adult volunteers are needed to provide care and attention to hospice patients in Macomb. More info. (309)343-3030
  • Meals on Wheels - Mobile meals for the homebound. Heartland Health Care Center, #8 Doctors Lane, Macomb:  (309)833-5555
  • McDonough District Hospital Volunteers - seeking volunteers to provide a variety of services and hospice help. "Lend a hand, a smile, and your heart." (309) 836-1579 or (309)836-1543.
  • McDonough County VIBE - Volunteers Interested in Benefiting Everyone raises funds for McDonough county non-profit organizations.
  • Mosaic - Provide residential and activity services for adults with developmental disabilities. (309)837-5506.
  • The Salvation Army - Provides food and other services for low income McDonough County residents or transients. (309)837-4824
  • Samaritan Well - The mission of Samaritan Services is to provide a supportive, structured and loving home for men, women and children who are homeless and in need of shelter.  Contact info. (309) 837-3357
  • Adult Volunteer Literacy Program - Adult Literacy Program of Spoon River College: (309)833-6038.
  • Tri-States Audio Information Services - Closed-circuit broadcasts for whose who are blind, visually impaired, or physically disabled and cannot read traditionally printed material. A service of  Tri States Public Radio and WIU. More info. (309)298-2403
  • Wesley Village - a full-service retirement community is seeking volunteers. (309)833-2123
  • Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) - Provides a variety of services to low income people of McDonough county from their home weatherization program to food, clothing, and more. More info. (309) 837-3941 or (309)837-2997
  • Youth For Christ - YFC reaches young people, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus. 1218 Maple Ave. More info. (309) 833-3026.
