Successful Meal Pack Event Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Thank you to everyone that helped. We had over 30 people working, including children, youth, and adults. Our goal was to pack 1,000 rice meal packs, and we did it -- and in less than 2 hours.
We look forward to our next Rice Meal Pack Event.
Our church has an opportunity to make 1,000 (in the past we did 500) rice meal packs of food which will feed approximately 6,000 people (6 people per bag). Each bag contains a protein/vitamin powder packet, dehydrated vegetables, soy flour and white rice. We will be assembling and packing these rice meal packs for the Midwest Mission Distribution Center who will then distribute them to countries in need around the world. All ages are welcome to come and spend about 2 hours as we put these meal kits together. We need people to sign up in advance. Rice Meal Pack flier.
Please sign up in advance, after church in the Atrium or call the church office. This is not required, but helpful.
Atrium (upper level) Wesley Church. All ages can help with this Hunger Relief Rice Project.
Also, we are collecting money to cover the cost of the rice packs (including shipping) which is $2 per bag. Please indicate on the memo line your check is for the Rice Project.
We pay $2 for each bag assembled. This covers the cost of ingredients, supplies, equipment, and shipping (usually out of the country). We will be collecting donations so that we can continue to have these rice meal pack events, and provide needed food for people in need, in the future.
Midwest Mission Distribution Center
Since opening for ministry in 2000, Midwest Mission (located south of Springfield, IL, just outside Chatham, IL) has been showing God’s Love in practical ways through the distribution of disaster relief supplies, education, health assistance meeting basic human needs around the world and around the corner. People volunteer at their location south of Springfield or at Off-site Mission Opportunities. In 2023, they opened a second Midwest Mission location, in Jefferson, Iowa. People can also be involved by providing supplies and/or preparing kits at home.
This project at Wesley Church is a church-wide project. We have a steering committee, chaired by Mark Anderson, who make the arrangements. This project comes out of the Social Concerns Team and the Missions Team. We hope that we can continue to host Rice Meal Pack Events periodically throughout the year. This is an 'off-site' event for the Midwest Mission.
We usually start the rice packing at 9 am. We are usually done between 11 and noon.
