Missions Team

Wesley Church has a Missions Team that meets monthly. The Missions Team oversees spending from the missions budget. Money is given to a wide variety of the missions projects, agencies, and efforts.  Some of them are listed on this page.

Mission trips

The Missions Team coordinates yearly mission trips. We usually have an adult and youth group go out of the country (e.g., to Costa Rica), a youth and adult group do a mission trip in the US (e.g., Virginia, Denver, CO), and the Wesley Foundation take a mission trip (e.g., to Cuba). Please visit our Mission Trips page to learn more.

Wesley Servant Days

Wesley Servant Days began in summer 2023. People who are affiliated with Wesley Church have an
opportunity to receive or provide help with simple home repairs or yard work. More information can be found on the Wesley Servant Days page.

Christian Caring Ministry

Short-term help is provided to those in need. This may include a phone call, sending a card, providing a meal or making a visit.

Wesley Church Partners with Habitat for Humanity

The Mission Team has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to upgrade an abandoned house to make it usable, so that Habitat for Humanity can make it available to a needy family. Members of Wesley are helping with the work and repairs at the home. WGEM News Report.

Loaves and Fishes

Prior to the pandemic, Loaves and Fishes distributed food to those in need.  It has since changed.

Loaves and Fishes Update (2/1/2023)

Thank you for your committee and individual contributions to Loaves and Fishes. Since opening mid November, we have provided grocery vouchers for 194 families and contributed toward utilities and rent to 41 families as of January 10. The need for assistance is needed greatly in our county. In order to provide information of other assistance for clients and to work closely with volunteer agencies, two board members are participating in the McDonough Interagency Council through the Regional Office of Education.

Presently, we are open Tuesday and Thursday mornings, but will change to Tuesday morning and afternoon beginning in February to better serve working clients. We are asking for additional volunteers to assist with the grocery vouchers. You may sign up for either morning or afternoon time, 9:30-12:00 or 1:30-4:00.  There are always at least two volunteers working at a time, and volunteers may sign up on days they wish. Streaming Waters Work Week (SWWW)

From 2009 to 2022, in the summer, dozens of church members and friends set aside one week to help people in our community. Jobs included yard work, repairing gutters, building ramps, painting, fixing decks, and repairing fences. A meal crew provided lunches, snacks and plenty of water. A prayer team prayed over the mission project. Wesley church donated the labor and materials. Click here for the archive information.

Missions of the Month

Each month Wesley Church has a mission of the month in which we raise money for one or more mission projects. Information about the mission of the month can be found in the Newsletter.

Sweet Corn Project

Each year, up until summer 2022, the Missions Team had a Corn For Compassion Sale.  The sweet corn sale was discontinued in 2023.  Click here for archive information.

Other Agencies

The Missions Team also contributes money to many other agencies around our state, country, and world. For more information, attend a Missions Team meeting.
